Our History: Over 85 Years of Family, Integrity, and Service

1939: A Humble Beginning with a Big Heart
Davis Garage, Inc. began in 1939 as a small, family-run service station in Winston-Salem off of Northwest Blvd near Reynolda Rd. Founded by A. Eugene Davis, the business was built on a simple, heartfelt promise: to keep local motorists safe and treat every customer like family. As an industry pioneer, Eugene helped found the Independent Garage Owners of North Carolina and designed some of the area's earliest tow trucks, setting a standard for innovation born out of a genuine desire to help people.

Growth Through Generations
As the automotive world evolved, our family business grew to meet the needs of our community. Under the second-generation leadership of Harvey Davis, the company expanded from mechanical repairs into full-service towing and recovery. In 1975, Harvey purchased the historic Union Station train depot, transforming it into a local landmark where we proudly served neighbors for decades. Harvey was later honored as one of the Top 50 Most Experienced Towman, in the nation.
Through hard work and steady growth, we expanded our fleet from standard rollbacks to heavy-duty wreckers, and later advancing into specialized RGN and Landoll transport services for oversized machinery. Today, we are honored to be recognized as the oldest operating towing company in North Carolina, and one of the 75 oldest in the United States.

2015: Embracing a New Chapter
In 2015, our journey brought us to a new home at 3050 Old Lexington Road, allowing the city to restore the historic Union Station. With this move, we transitioned our name to Davis Towing & Recovery—a reflection of our modern, specialized capabilities that never forgets the garage where it all began. Below is what our fleet looked like when we first moved to our new location on Old Lexington Rd.
The Davis Legacy Today
More than 85 years later, the tools and trucks have changed, but our core values remain untouched. Today, the company is proudly led by third-generation owner Chris Davis. Beside him stands his wife, and a dedicated team of employees who share the Davis family’s commitment to excellence.
We know that when you call us, you might be having a difficult day. That is why we still run our business on the same principles Eugene established in 1939: honesty, hard work, and a neighborly promise to be there when you need us most.
